So New Year resolutions heh? Over 1 week into 2012 I’m pretty disappointed to find that I am still broke, undetoxed and exhibiting a laziness that may best be described as slothlike. 2 Christmas weeks with the couch, the tin of Celebrations and the Downton Abbey boxset have taken their toll and if there’s one thing that can make a grey January morning grimmer it’s an undeniable strain on the button of your work pants- am I right?
I fully accept that I have no one to blame for this sorry state of affairs but myself. In fact there have never been more motivations to remove myself from the sofa (for one thing I ran out of Downton episodes over a week ago)
There’s the Cunnigar walking and running league that will meet each Sunday at 9.30am. The Cunnigar is the sand spit that stretches from An Rinn across Dungarvan Bay. A good spot to get moving, one imagines, for the likes of me who can’t pound the tarmac due to the presence of shin splints and an ideal spot they promise in the right weather for a sand abrasion facial- bargain!
As 9.30am last Sunday morning saw me glued to my pillow I might set my sights on a more medium term goal; there’s the John Treacy 10 in Dungarvan on 29th January or the Anne Valley 5 Mile Challenge in Dunhill on 11th February.
The Waterford Adventure Race will take place 19th May. The full race includes a 14km run, 42km cycle and 6.4km kayak. While resolutions are always optimistic, there’s no point being downright delusional I won’t complete the race but for the wannabes like me there is a new option for 2012; the team relay challenge. Gather 1 runner, 1 cyclist, 1 kayaker and 1 support driver and have at the adventure race as a group
If all else fails the third series of Downton Abbey will be on in March…
