Highly acclaimed singer/songwriter Mark Geary and internationally known singer/songwriter and BAFTA award winner Ryland Teifi together with Mendocino are set to perform at The Gealach Gorm Singer / Songwriting Festival 2012 - a weekend of live original music showcasing singer/songwriters from Ireland, Wales and The United States which will take place in the intimate atmosphere of The Gealach Gorm Theatre a 65 seater fully furnished theatre in Kill Community Centre from Feb 24th to Feb 26th.
On Friday 24th February one of Ireland’s finest exponents of original music - Liam Merriman will host ‘Songs in The Round’ featuring : Anthony Mulcahy originally from Bonmahon, Co. Waterford, now living in New York (who conceived the idea of running this festival and whose first album ‘Lazy Days’ was launched in the theatre in September 2010), Fflur Dafydd – Welsh female artist of the year 2010, Neil White one of Waterford’s finest singer songwriters, Jenny Dunne an actress and singer from Denver Colorado who has performed in off Broadway Shows, Taryn Lounsbury from New York, a talented songwriter and graduate of Berklee College of Music and Niall Connolly originally from Cork, now living in New York, an astonishing storyteller who has played at over 250 concerts from Mexico to Budapest in the last year. Liam Merriman will also perform a number of his own songs. Each performer will introduce their compositions and explain what inspired them to write the song.
Saturday 25th features the exceptional talents of artist Mark Geary in concert. Drawing from inspirations such as The Beatles, Nick Drake, Radiohead and Van Morrison, Mark has garnered respect and attention from both audiences and fellow artists. His album 33 1/3 Grand Street, grabbed the attention of new fans in the U.S. and abroad. His album, Ghosts, brought him critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic and was voted 2005′s Album of the Year by the Irish Voice. 2008′s Opium continued the trend of showcasing Mark’s considerable talents. His songs have been featured on various television shows including One Tree Hill and Bones.
On Sunday 26th Ryland Teifi and Mendocino will perform an evening of original music which is sure to enthrall the audience. Ryland Teifi is a BAFTA Cymru and Welsh songwriter of the year winner and has toured the world as a singer songwriter and actor sharing stages with the likes Steve Earl, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Liam Clancy and Bryn Terfel. He is married to Roisin Clancy (daughter of the late Bobby Clancy) and is now living in Ring Co. Waterford. He takes his song writing inspiration from both Wales and Ireland and is widely acclaimed as one of the finest performers around.
This festival is an event, not alone for lovers of original music but for all who enjoy entertainment in an intimate atmospheric venue, performed by artists with exceptional creative talents.
