Music

Waterford’s live music scene is live and hopping, between the Garter Lane Theatre, The Forum and the Theatre Royal as well as contemporary and traditional music played in pubs and clubs around the county.

Apart from visiting local venues, visitors should check out Waterford’s International Music Festival which takes place each year at the end of June/beginning of July. There are a number of other music festivals, including the excellent Féile na Déise event in Dungarvan, which focuses on traditional music and the Dunmore East Bluegrass Festival in Dunmore East every August. The Booley House is a traditional Irish music and dance show staged in Ballyduff every Wednesday night in July and August. It is essential that you book your seats as this 90 minute performance is hugely popular- call 058-54975- and arrive early to enjoy your welcoming cup of tea and apple tart!

The local pub is often the best place to catch an Irish music session; try An Cruiscín Lán in Villierstown on Sunday afternoons between 4 and 6pm. Alternatively see the Ballyduff/Ballyinavella/Ballysaggart Comhaltas group in action in The Log Cabin, Ballyduff Upper on Friday nights from 10pm. The same group hosts children's sessions on Sundays 4-6pm.
