Family Fun Holidays

From hotels with leisure centres to self-catering options with a beach at the back door, Waterford county has plenty of options to keep families with young and older children occupied.

There’s a range of accommodation for every budget. A selection of caravan parks can be found along the coast as well as self-catering options suited to family groups that need plenty of room. A number of hotels around the county offer family rooms and have swimming pools.

The city and county has plenty of fun family options open to young children and teenagers. Choose from open farms to adventure in the great outdoors, scenic walks, amusement arcades and some high-quality playgrounds.

There are cinemas in both Waterford and Dungarvan. In Tramore, there’s Splashworld, and for the more adventurous, an amazing selection of surf schools can be found along the Waterford coast, to keep families busy.

 Waterford and Suir Valley Railway

All aboard to experience the magic of rail!

The magic of rail’s golden age has been brought back to life at the beautifully restored Kilmeadan Station in Co Waterford. 

Visiting railway passengers pay their fare at the ticket office- a converted rail carriage- before boarding the train where the conductor checks their tickets.  When everyone is safely on board the whistle blows and the driver pulls away from the station. . On the journey enjoy the beauty of the Suir Valley; a partially opened carriage lets you take in the panoramic views of the rolling farmland of Waterford and across the river to Co Kilkenny. The track winds along the river giving passengers glimpses of areas accessible only by train and even peeking into the world famous Mount Congreve Gardens.
